The FLUX Lab in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University seeks motivated PhD students, for an expected start date of Fall 2027. The FLUX Lab conducts research in environmental fluid mechanics and water resources engineering, with particular interests in surface water–groundwater interactions and coupled hydrologic modeling. Current research directions include numerical modeling of hydrodynamics and related processes such as sediment transport, water quality, and ecohydrology in riverine and coastal environments.

Students with backgrounds in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Hydrogeology, Applied Mathematics, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Prior experience or a strong interest in numerical modeling is particularly welcome.

Prospective students interested in joining the lab are encouraged to contact Chieh-Ying (Cindy) Chen at email hidden; JavaScript is required with:

  • A current CV
  • A brief statement describing their academic background and research interests

Chieh-Ying (Cindy) Chen will review inquiries and follow up with selected candidates. Please note that all candidates must also submit a formal application to the PhD program in Civil and Environmental Engineering and meet the program's admission requirements and the December 15, 2026 deadline.

More information can be found on the FLUX Lab website (https://cycindychen.github.io/). Please feel free to contact Chieh-Ying (Cindy) Chen at email hidden; JavaScript is required with any questions.
