Water Science Exchange

Registration Opens Soon!

2026 WSX

Join us for the inaugural CUAHSI Water Science Exchange, happening this fall!

The theme, Water in Working Landscapes, highlights water-related work and challenges specific to the Midwest, alongside broader programming on multi-agency water data, cloud computing, and specialized methods in water science.

Designed to build skills, facilitate knowledge exchange, and spark new collaborations across career stages and institutions; this two-and-a-half day gathering will bring together water science researchers for skill-building workshops, a poster session, presentation opportunities, and field site visits.

Attendees will span career stages including students, faculty, agency scientists, and practitioners.

Join us for:

Skill-Building Workshops: Hands-on sessions leveraging multi-agency water data from NOAA, USGS, and NASA, plus cloud computing and open data publishing on HydroShare.

Special Topics Forum: Topical plenary discussion on AI in Water Science

Field Site Visits: Regional expertise from local researchers and practitioners working on Midwest water challenges at nearby field sites.

Poster Session: A chance to present your research to an audience of up to 100 attendees spanning career stages.

Grow Your Network: Opportunities to create new connections across career stages, including students, faculty, agency scientists, and practitioners.

Host a Workshop at the 2026 Water Science Exchange

We are still accepting workshop proposals! Share your knowledge with early-career researchers, students, and colleagues across the water science community, and help shape a gathering meant to spark new collaborations.

The workshops can be 2-6 hours, geared towards graduate students and early career researchers, and will be hosted throughout The Water Science Exchange.

Topics can include:

  • Foundational, innovative, or specialized methods in water science

  • Stakeholder involvement in water research

  • The Water in Working Landscapes theme

If you or someone in your network would be interested in leading a workshop, we would love to hear from you! Contact Community Relations & Training Coordinator, Julia Masterman (email hidden; JavaScript is required).

Interested in hosting a future Water Science Exchange?

CUAHSI is seeking support from Water Science involved-organizations as we plan to host 4 regionally distributed Water Science Exchanges between 2027 - 2028! Each event will foundationally be built around skill-building and science catalyst workshops.

Longtime members of the CUAHSI community may be familiar with the CUAHSI Biennial meeting. These gatherings are intended to build on that tradition, preserving the best of in-person networking while expanding capacity building opportunities, and broadening accessibility.

CUAHSI is in search of host institutions as we begin planning 2027 and 2028 meetings. Each year will have a Spring and Fall meeting. To learn more and to indicate your interest, please fill out this form!
