With so much research and data available in the era of big data, strong pushes have recently been made within the academic research community to ensure that scientific findings are more transparent, reproducible and reusable. To address this need, several changes have emerged, including the FAIR Guiding Principles for scientific data management and stewardship aimed at making data and research products Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. It is now standard for the agencies that fund scientific research and the publishers who publish results to mandate open sharing of data and other research products. However, strategies and techniques required to achieve FAIR research products are not always obvious and present challenges for new investigators who are learning data management, large collaborative groups who may be working with large and diverse data, and computational researchers whose workflows present technical challenges for sharing. In this VCO, we will address existing policies and emerging trends in data sharing requirements along with tools available to you for data sharing, data publication, and integration of computational workflows via the HydroShare repository (https://www.hydroshare.org) and its linked JupyterHub computational environments which were designed with these policies in mind and are now being leveraged by the I-GUIDE platform.
