Are you sitting on a nearly finished dataset that just needs a push to be published and shared? CUAHSI invites you to join a new 3-week cohort program designed to help researchers clear the “last mile” of data publishing. Upon completion of all sessions and providing your feedback on ways to improve the program for future users, you'll come away with a finished or nearly finished data publication, and you'll receive a CUAHSI 25th Anniversary hoodie.

Over the course of five guided sessions in three weeks (1–3 hours per week), you’ll get:

  • Step-by-step training on best practices for preparing and publishing scientific data in HydroShare.
  • Structured working time with goal setting and support to move your dataset forward.
  • Peer encouragement from a motivated cohort facing the same challenges.
  • Explanations and examples of how data publishing in HydroShare fulfills grant funder requirements.

By the end of the program, you’ll have the tools, confidence, and momentum to make your data openly available and citable. At the end of the program, we will ask you to complete a survey and join a short listening session to provide feedback and identify improvements.

This cohort is limited to 20 spots, which will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. To join this cohort, please submit a response to this form no later than May 1, 2026.

Week 1 - Getting Set Up (2 x 1 hr sessions)

May 18, 2026 | 2:00 – 3:00 PM EST  | HydroShare for data publishing

May 20, 2026 | 2:00 – 3:00 PM EST | File organization and data uploads

We’ll kick things off with an overview of the data publishing process and help you triage what’s needed for your dataset. Together, we’ll walk through setting up your HydroShare account, creating a resource, and adding the essential details: title, abstract, keywords, authors, grant information, and spatial extent. We’ll also cover additional metadata that can make your dataset more FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).

Week 2 - Configuring Your Content (2 x 1 hr sessions + optional 1:1s)

May 25, 2026 | 2:00 – 3:00 PM EST | Code files and leveraging computing resources

May 27, 2026 | 2:00 – 3:00 PM EST | READMEs and additional metadata

May 28-29, 2026 | VARIED | Open bookings for 1:1 assistance

This week dives deeper into preparing your resource for publication. If you plan to upload any code, we'll walk through how to include code files and leverage HydroShare cloud computing resources such as JupyterHubalongside your dataset. We'll also cover crafting a clear README, completing metadata, and formatting your resource for clarity and reuse. Sessions may include breakout rooms or specialized tracks to address your specific dataset type. You can also opt into a 1:1 meeting with a Program Guide if your data challenges are not fully addressed in the group sessions.

Week 3 - Finishing Strong (3 hrs)

June 1, 2026 | 2:00 – 4:00 PM EST

June 4, 2026 | 2:00 – 3:00 PM EST | Feedback listening session

In our final week, you’ll polish your resource with peer feedback and add the final touches. We’ll cover how to properly cite your dataset, link it with a manuscript under review, and ensure your work is ready for discovery and reuse. For those whose dataset is supported by NSF funding, we will discuss how to submit the dataset as a research product to the NSF Public Access Repository (PAR) system to meet funding requirements.  There will also be a session to share your feedback and discuss future improvements to this program.
