Even the most carefully planned field season can throw you curveballs - storms may knock out your data loggers, wildlife may take up residence in your camera housing, or algae could grow on your optical sensors. When it comes to environmental data collection, you can always expect the unexpected, but with the right practices, your data can still deliver valuable insights.
This webinar builds on our May 2025 workshop, “Proactive Data Management for Post-Field Season Data Success” led by Dr. Tyler Butts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Limnology. View the recording here. In that earlier workshop, we focused on preparing for a robust field collection season including how to implement a data management plan into your field season planning, tracking and organizing data during collection, the importance of metadata, and common approaches for organizing files and creating tidy data.
In this follow-up webinar, we will explore steps you should consider taking after the field season. We will start by revisiting the practices introduced in our previous workshop and give time for you to reflect on whether and how the framework supported your field season. Then, we will talk about conducting an initial exploratory data analysis in preparation for deeper research, explore practices we can follow to ensure our analyses are reproducible, and finally discuss steps you can take now to prepare for eventual data publishing, including a brief introduction to HydroShare.
This webinar is free and open to anyone. It will be recorded and posted on the CUAHSI YouTube Channel.
