Postdoctoral Research Position at FIU
Dr. Ali Ebrahimian from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Florida International University (FIU) invites highly motivated candidates to apply for an exciting postdoctoral research position that is immediately available.

The research projects are funded by NOAA and NFWF/USDA and focused on:
1) AI-powered characterization of microplastics in urban stormwater, fate and transport of microplastics and other contaminants (sediments, nutrients, and metals) in urban stormwater systems, and performance assessment of urban green stormwater infrastructure in shallow groundwater regions.
2) Watershed-scale hydrologic and water quality modeling with surface-subsurface interactions to understand land-based sources of pollution.
Research methods include AI modeling (machine learning and deep learning), process-based hydrologic and water quality modeling, and sensor-based field monitoring.

Required qualifications:
1. Demonstrated experience and publications in at least one of the areas related to the research projects including, but not limited to, AI/ML/DL modeling in water resources or geo-environmental problems, especially using image processing (at any scale, from small scales such as micro-size particle images to large-scale satellite imagery for flood or water quality studies), microplastics fate and transport modeling, watershed scale hydrologic/water quality modeling with surface water–groundwater interactions, and unsaturated zone hydrologic modeling.
2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
3. PhD in relevant engineering or science fields.

Additional information:
- This is a full-time, in-person position at FIU and does not offer a remote work option.
- The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal up to three years contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding availability.
- Excellent opportunities for grant proposal writing, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and presenting at national conferences are available.
- The successful applicant will have the opportunity to collaborate with a cross-disciplinary group of engineers and scientists from the Institute of Environment (https://environment.fiu.edu/) and Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences (https://www.cis.fiu.edu/), as well as engage with national, regional, and local management organizations, NGOs, and industries.

How to apply:
Please submit a single PDF using this link: https://forms.gle/PewkeLd45z1J43Rj8
The single PDF must include three items: 1) CV (with graduation dates, GPAs, publications, technical skills including programming and software packages, and academic references including your PhD advisor), 2) A short (< 1 page) statement on how the applicant can contribute to the research projects, and 3) Unofficial transcripts from all degrees. The file name must be [Your First Name]_[Your Last Name]_Postdoc.

Questions can be directed to Dr. Ebrahimian (email hidden; JavaScript is required), but submissions sent via email will not be reviewed. Application review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
