Position Type: Full-time, Exempt
Salary: $54,000 - $63,000 (dependent on qualifications and experience)

Position Summary
The Environmental Data Science Fellow helps researchers publish, curate, and reuse water data in HydroShare and related CUAHSI services. Acting as the primary point of contact for user support, the Fellow provides clear guidance for data publishing practices and workflows, develops training materials, and champions FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data and reproducible practices across the community. This work directly contributes to CUAHSI’s core mission by increasing adoption and enhancing usability of data management ecosystems to strengthen the research community’s capacity to publish and reuse water data. The Fellow will join a team of data scientists at CUAHSI working to build data-centric practices across internal operations, educational offerings, and grant-funded research.
Key Responsibilities
- Author and deliver virtual trainings, in-person workshops, and demonstrations at conferences on data management, publishing, and reuse.
- Write and maintain “how-to” guides, quick-start notebooks, and FAQ pages; create code and data examples that demonstrate best practices.
- Serve as the point of contact for all CUAHSI user-support tickets; resolve or delegate user support issues; ensure and document follow-up.
- Assist with collecting and analyzing usage metrics to inform improvements in data publishing services and tools.
- Actively engage new and prospective users to increase the adoption and quality of data published in CUAHSI’s systems
- Travel occasionally to attend project meetings, conferences, workshops, and other professional engagements.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- At least an undergraduate degree in environmental science, hydrology, data science, information sciences, or a related field
- Experience in data manipulation (e.g., python pandas, xarray; R tidyverse, data.table), data processing workflows, or data visualizations using programming languages such as Python or R
- Demonstrable experience with managing or publishing data
- Ability to translate technical systems into user-friendly communications
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Experience leading webinars and teaching virtually
Preferred Skills
- Working knowledge of data science best practices
- Familiarity with FAIR and/or CARE data principles
- Experience publishing model outputs and code
- Familiarity and/or previous experience with CUAHSI and HydroShare
- Experience summarizing and communicating user feedback
