The Internet of Water (IoW) is a project currently housed at Duke University's Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions, managed by a small startup team and supported by grants from several philanthropic organizations. The mission of IoW is to build a dynamic and voluntary network of communities and institutions to facilitate the opening, sharing, and integration of water data and information.

Through a grant from the Mitchell Foundation, CUAHSI is partnering with the IoW and the Western States Water Council (WSWC) to advance the principles of the IoW. Specifically, CUAHSI is modernizing the CUAHSI HIS to be more interoperable with a greater variety of data providers using modern technology. CUAHSI also is partnering with IoW and WSWC to conduct training workshops at a variety of venues across the U.S.
