The Macrosystems Ecology Lab (https://www.clu-lab.com/) in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, & Organismal Biology at Iowa State University (Ames, IA) is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of flood and nutrient pollution prediction in intensively managed agricultural landscapes.
This position focuses on the fusion of deep learning approaches and process-based hydro-ecological modeling. Candidates with a background in terrestrial ecosystem/hydrology/biogeochemistry modeling, and experience or interest in machine learning/deep learning are encouraged to apply. Proficiency in coding languages such as R, Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ is highly desirable. The selected candidate will work closely with an interdisciplinary research team to forecast rural flood occurrences and nutrient loss from land to aquatic systems. Collaborative support from experts in ecohydrology, computer science, deep learning, and hydroinformatics will be provided under two ongoing NSF projects. Funding is available for three years, contingent on successful progress.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Ph.D. degree from an accredited institution in Ecosystem Ecology, Biogeochemistry, Ecohydrology, Agriculture, Forestry, or related fields with experience of terrestrial ecosystem modeling is required.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience and background on biogeochemistry/hydrology modeling, deep learning, geospatial analysis, and computer programming.
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, record of research publications in refereed journals of high quality, and a demonstrated ability to function well within multidisciplinary teams are required.
