The Department of Geology and Environmental Science at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in hydrology and water sustainability. Strong collaborative opportunities exist including the Pittsburgh Water Collaboratory and others! The Department is a highly interactive community, dedicated to the mutual success of our faculty and students. We offer low teaching loads and highly competitive start-up, compensation, and benefits packages. For best consideration, apply by October 1.
Given the recent and expected environmental change that impacts water quality and its presence, the Department seeks a hydrologist to develop the capacity to understand these issues of regional, national, and global importance. We seek a colleague with expertise in identifying and modeling hydrologic change (e.g., human-, climatic-, or planetary-driven shifts), and an interest in solutions to water challenges. Our goal is to hire a colleague who uses a combination of quantitative field-based measurements, data-driven modeling, or remote sensing to better understand water-climate-human interactions. Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to surface water hydrology; groundwater hydrology; the interacting roles of climate variability and land use change on hydrologic processes; physical models of ecohydrologic processes from the plot to the global scale; as well as volcanic and planetary hydrology.
The successful candidate will complement existing research clusters and establish an externally funded, internationally recognized research program that complements existing strengths in the Department. Strong collaborative opportunities exist across the University including the nationally awarded Pittsburgh Water Collaboratory, the Climate and Global Change Center, the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation, and the emerging Pitt Space Initiative. Teaching duties include undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate's area of expertise. The Department is a highly interactive community, dedicated to the mutual success of our faculty and students. We offer low teaching loads and highly competitive start-up, compensation, and benefits packages.
Interested candidates can apply online at: https://tinyurl.com/pitthydrojob. To ensure full consideration, complete applications should be received by October 1, 2024. However, applications will be accepted for the duration of the search until the position is filled. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment, with the position scheduled to begin in Fall 2025, subject to budgetary approval. Please direct questions to email hidden; JavaScript is required.
Applications should include: 1) a one-page cover letter; 2) a curriculum vitae (CV); 3) a teaching statement of less than two pages, 4) a research statement explaining accomplishments and future plans of less than three pages, and 5) a one-page diversity statement describing how your scholarly activities (research, teaching, mentorship, service) demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion; 5) copies of three relevant publications, 6) names and contact information of four references (no letters should be submitted at this stage of the search).
The University of Pittsburgh is a thriving research institution and the twelfth-largest recipient of federally sponsored research funding among U.S. universities.
