Are you interested in helping answer critical questions about water in the west and gain valuable work experience? The U.S. Geological Survey Utah Water Science Center has a few openings to hire 180-day Hydrologic Technicians (field assistants) to assist with multiple hydrogeologic studies in the State of Utah.

The duty-station is in Salt Lake City/West Valley City, UT. Duties performed by this position include various tasks and can be tailored based on the applicant’s skillset. Potential duties could include:

1) collection and computation of water and sediment data for hydrologic studies,

2) organization and archiving of water quality and sediment samples,

3) data management and analysis (utilizing tools such as ArcGIS, R, Python)


4) general assistance with field preparation and sampling efforts.

The position will also assist with other project related work assessing hydrogeologic conditions throughout the State of Utah.

Duration of Appointment: This is a temporary excepted service position not-to-exceed 1 year but may be extended up to a maximum of 2 years without further competition. Employment may not exceed 180 working days in a service year. All qualified applicants, with or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

The work of this position will not exceed 1039 hours of work in a service year.

The U.S. Geological Survey has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework.
