Scientific Programmer / Software Engineer
Lynker is hiring a Scientific Programmer/Software Engineer to work alongside scientists at NOAA-Office of Water Prediction (OWP) at the National Water Center (NWC) on the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa AL. The candidate will be a developer that is familiar with modern programming languages and is comfortable working in a Linux environment. This work will facilitate ongoing development of the NOAA National Water Model's (NWM) operations and capabilities (http://water.noaa.gov). Daily duties will include the development and testing of new and existing computational programs to process and analyze the extensive database associated with the NWM. This candidate will also work alongside a team of hydrologists and geospatial scientists to implement data processing applications to provide stakeholders with flood mapping and forecast data services. Experience an ideal work-life balance and high-energy work environment within the NWC while collaborating with leading experts in the field of operational hydrology and data analytics.
Experience or skills should include:
- Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (or similar degree)
- Experience with process-automation programming using Python, R or similar languages
- Experience implementing mathematical algorithms for scientific applications
- Experience with ESRI GIS applications and tools for processing large geospatial data sets
Work will be performed on site at the National Water Center in Tuscaloosa, AL. US citizenship or Permanent Residency is required at time of application.
