CUAHSI DevOps/Cloud Engineer

Open Position: DevOps/Cloud Engineer (remote option)

Position Summary

Do you want to help support research of global importance and work in a small, distributed and collaborative team developing solutions to the world’s water problems?

We are a primarily NSF funded, non-profit university consortium and support a global community that is committed to developing solutions to the world’s water problems and developing policy solutions that can improve the lives of people everywhere. We are seeking a DevOps/Cloud Engineer to support our mission to promote education and research in the water sciences and provide access to community data, modeling, and compute software. 

The candidate will report to the Technical Director and will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing current DevOps infrastructure primarily in the cloud. The candidate will require experience in system design and implementation requiring a high level of technical expertise in a variety of technical disciplines.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead cloud application and infrastructure deployments for development and production environments.
  • Improve infrastructure reliability and implement emerging best practices.
  • Encourage and build automated processes wherever possible and embrace IaC.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure issues for end-users and developers
  • Provide Subject Matter expertise for the design and roadmapping of infrastructure
  • Maintain and advance the capabilities of our CI/CD pipeline.
  • Work closely with scientists to transition new and existing R&D software to production infrastructure in the cloud.
  • Manage user environments and help resolve issues.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Support small office infrastructure

Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong expertise in server administration ( Ubuntu, RedHat)
  • Strong experience with Docker (Dockerfile, docker-compose) and Kubernetes.
  • Solid Linux bash/shell scripting
  • Solid Experience with GCP (IAM, Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine) or other cloud vendors.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Travis, Bamboo or TeamCity).
  • 4-year technical degree and 3+ years professional experience.
  • Experience supporting production infrastructure.
  • Occasional Off-hours support.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in environmental science or working at a startup.
  • Experience with server administration and networking.
