About the Position:
ESA is seeking a Coastal Engineer to join the Coastal Zone Engineering and Management practice in Northern California. You will work closely with our existing team of hydrologists, geomorphologists, biologists, engineers, and regulatory experts to help manage, restore, and enhance our natural shores and wetlands. Primary technical responsibilities include quantitative analysis of physical processes and engineering in support of multi-objective planning and design projects, including shore and wetland restoration design, natural resource management, flooding and erosion studies, and sea-level rise adaptation planning.
Typical projects include:
- Surfer’s Point Managed Shoreline Retreat design
- Ocean Beach Master Plan
- Oro Loma Horizontal Levee design
- San Francisco Bay Living Shorelines project
- Dutch Slough Tidal Wetland Restoration design
You must have 4 years’ minimum relevant work experience and a Master's of Science or higher degree with a strong technical foundation in physical coastal processes such as wave theory and modeling, coastal flood hazard analysis, and sediment transport analysis and modeling. You must have or be working toward a California Professional Engineers license, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and have the ability to work effectively on teams with a variety of stakeholders and other professionals. Project management experience including responsibility for schedule, budget and deliverables for multi-disciplinary projects is strongly desired.
Other desired qualifications include:
- Business development experience including preparation of competitive proposals and budget estimates.
- Experience in production of construction documents, including plans, specifications and cost estimates
- Demonstrated ability to write clear and concise engineering and scientific reports and papers
- A passion for the restoration of natural systems and processes.
ESA works primarily in California, but has projects throughout the West and beyond; some travel is required. While locating in our San Francisco or other Northern California offices is preferred, well-qualified candidates in Southern California, Oregon, Washington and Florida may be considered.
