Resources for Educators

link to the E&O project pageCUAHSI supports the community with various resources for both formal and informal education and outreach to the general public.

Data Access, Publication and Analysis

link to the Informatics pageCUAHSI has developed a Hydrologic Information System (HIS), based on a services oriented architecture, that allows scientists to publish data they collect and find data collected by numerous agencies as well as other universities using HydroDesktop, the first HIS client. All HIS software is open source and collaboration on its development is encouraged.

Making Measurements

link to the Instrumentation pageCUAHSI enables university scientists to share data through nodes of a virtual Hydrologic Measurement Facility. Two nodes-the Center for Transformative Environmental Monitoring Programs (CTEMPS) at the University of Nevada-Reno and Oregon State University, and the Hydrogeophysics Node at the University of Arizona are currently active. A mobile X-band radar node is under development at the University of Iowa. In addition, CUAHSI is collaborating with the USGS on instrumentation development. CUAHSI members can rent equipment from the USGS Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility.

Developing Observatory Networks

Long-term field sites are operated by many universities from a variety of funding sources. Based upon the Hydrologic Information System data publication system, CUAHSI is seeking to develop a grass-roots network of sites to enable cross-site comparison, and to develop tools that allow scientists to place their field sites into a larger context.

Resources for Your Proposal

link to the Resources for Your Proposal pageCUAHSI can assist in various aspects of your proposal writing process. If you need assistance in finding reviewers, please contact us. In the particular example of writing proposals for the NSF's Water Sustainability and Climate (WSC) solicitation, CUAHSI could assist via our data services—to satisfy NSF's new data management policy and make your data available to the public and the broader community. When including instrumentation access in your proposal, it is important to budget for all the costs associated with obtaining and deploying the instrumentation. CUAHSI staff can help develop cost estimates. Additionally, CUAHSI can provide community access—engaging the water science community through our communication outlets. These services are available to all proposing teams on an equal basis and for the broad variety of disciplines that are interested in water science.
