Universities, including single or multiple campuses of multi-campus university systems, chartered in the United States with graduate degree programs in hydrologic sciences and a major commitment to research in that field may become Members of the Corporation. {CUAHSI Bylaws, Article II, section 1}
An institution applying for membership must be qualified as an educational and not-for-profit institution recognized as exempt for Federal income tax purposes as an organization described in Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3) according to criteria adopted by the Board of Directors. Qualified institutions may be elected as Members by the affirmative vote of two-thirds of the members of the entire Board of Directors, or by unanimous vote of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. {CUAHSI Bylaws, Article II, section 2}
