Webex on "Opportunities for International Collaboration in Critical Zone Science
Scientists interested in Critical Zone research particularly as it applies to Fresh Water Security and Coastal Vulnerability are invited to join the webex on "Opportunities for International Collaboration in Critical Zone Science" that will be held between 9:00 and 11:00 am EST on Monday, May 7. The event will bring together members of the Belmont Forum and several of the participants of the International Critical Zone Observatory Joint Workshop sponsored by the NSF and the European Commission in November 2011. The workshop report is available at the Belmont Forum Website.

The webex event will present information on: 1) two new solicitations under the Belmont Forum International Opportunity Fund on "Coastal Vulnerability" and "Fresh Water Security;" and 2) the Critical Zone Observatory program's experience and lessons on international multidisciplinary observatory science. Participants in the webex event will have the opportunity to ask questions to the presenters.

Agenda for Webex event:
· Need for Critical Zone Observatory (CZO) Science and US CZO Program Overview
Dr. Fred Scatena, University of Pennsylvania
· Introduction to Belmont Forum-G8 HORC's Freshwater Security & Coastal Vulnerability call for proposals
Dr. Maria Uhle, Geosciences Directorate, National Science Foundation
· Experience and Lessons Learned from the CZO Program
Dr. Roger Bales, University of California Merced
· International CZOs Overview and Recommendations from International CZO Workshop
Dr. Steve Banwart, University of Sheffield
· Panel Discussion moderated by Dr. Anthony Aufdenkampe, Stroud Water Research Center, and Dr. Brian McGlynn, Montana State University

EarthCube Workflow Workshops: Call for Participation
The EarthCube Workflow Working Group solicits the participation of scientists interested in the application of scientific workflow technologies to problems in geosciences. A series of virtual workshops will be conducted in prepartion for the June EarthCube all-hands meeting with the goal of the workshops being to constitute a community of researchers and develop a roadmap document for the application of scientific workflows to problems in the geosciences. Virtual workshops are being held April 13th and May 16th.
