CUAHSI HMF Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there training opportunities for the HMF Instrumentation equipment?
CUAHSI has a program of Hands-on Workshops that has provided training courses for some of the instrumentation above in the past. CTEMPS also holds short courses and offers training opportunities; information is available at their website ctemps.org/training/index.html. Currently there are no scheduled workshops for the X-Band Radar. If you are interested in training opportunities on node instrumentation or other technologies, please contact us, and we can notify you of any future opportunities.
I'm writing a proposal and want to include one of these instrumentation services. What should I do?
CUAHSI instrumentation services through the Virtual HMF are available to the entire academic community. When including instrumentation access in your proposal, it is important to budget for all the costs associated with obtaining and deploying the instrumentation. We encourage you to discuss your proposal with the node provider and/or CUAHSI staff, and develop cost estimates. Some equipment may be relatively easy to deploy, and requires only leasing and mobilization costs. Other instrumentation services might have significant deployment costs, including shipping and insurance, technician support and training costs. Another factor is that some nodes may have scheduling requirements that you will want to include in your proposed work timeline.
Are there any plans to add new services?
Yes, CUAHSI is actively working to add new nodes and instrumentation services to the Virtual HMF. We encourage instrumentation providers to learn more about collaborating with CUAHSI. We also need to know what the community wants. If you have an idea for an instrumentation service or node, please share your idea and let us know.
