Request for InformationSabbatical Opportunity at Earth Observing Laboratory, National Center for Atmospheric Research
The Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. (CUAHSI) is considering requesting support for a visiting sabbatical scientist to work at the Earth Observing Laboratory (EOL), a unit of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), an NSF-supported research center located in Boulder, Colorado. NCAR has been expanding its research into the terrestrial hydrologic cycle and the EOL includes, among other groups, an in-situ instrumentation group which focuses on the atmosphere-surface exchange of energy and moisture and the spatial distribution of soil heat flux, temperature, and water, and a radar group which focuses on precipitation estimation. This is an outstanding opportunity for observation-oriented hydrologic scientists to work with an advanced instrumentation group in an intellectually stimulating environment.
Sabbatical support would be available as early as the 2008-2009 academic year, but proposals are sought from anyone who might be interested in such a position during the next 5 years. CUAHSI is requesting support from the National Science Foundation and NCAR is providing additional funding during the first year, for a total of approximately $75,000 for the CUAHSI visiting scientist. If there is sufficient demand, a similar opportunity could be offered annually.
The purpose of this RFI is to assess interest in such an opportunity. If you would be interested in taking advantage of such a sabbatical position, please provide the indicated information on the email form at exdir@cuahsi.org no later than July 2, 2007. No person will be chosen prior to submission of the renewal proposal in August 2007, but, assuming there is sufficient demand, formal proposals will be solicited during the Fall of 2007. A decision on the renewal proposal is anticipated by March 2008.
Please contact Rick Hooper (exdir@cuahsi.org or 202-777-7306) with any questions.
